Copywriting is a skill that cannot be learned completely. Some people are born and trained for it without even knowing. Some acquire it by education, courses and degrees. But one thing if for sure, every copywriter feel it inside of him. The happiness he finds in writing those creative and crazy lines just makes his day, what so ever.
So how you know if you can make your career in copywriting as well? Maybe you will experience what I went through:
All your life, everyone in your family and friends circle have reached out to you when they are need of some appropriate words. University applications, letters, academic papers or just simple text – you provide the words for their feelings and something which makes them go and say, “YES! THIS!”
While on road, your favorite pass time is to look at billboards and analyze every ad, every slogan and tagline. Your family is fed up of your obsession over TV jingles. You judge a website by its headline and the sub headings. It’s just there in your head and you know you can’t ignore it.
Oh this one is one of my favorite! You just take a peek at some text and you know exactly what the problems in it are. Punctuation, grammar, spacing, more Ss’, less hyphens, alignment – everything that just bothers you to the core and you can’t rest till it gets fixed.
Hell yeah! If someone calls you grammar Nazi, you take it as a compliment. While conversing you notice all the tiny mistakes in their grammar. And worst: tH!$ !$ En0ugH 2 fRe@k y0u 0uT 4 A wH0Le D@Y!
You are on a constant look out for good lines and words. You store your inspiration in an app. It is your treasure and looking at it makes you happy.
Be it anything, a good email, Facebook post, an interesting clever tweet – you just feel like this is where you belong.
Being a copywriter is nothing short of amazing. It needs practice and when you finally get on the right track, you wouldn’t change it for any other career path.
Till next time.
